The British Embassy in Luxembourg hosted a grand celebration for the King’s Birthday on Thursday 13 June. The event saw an impressive turnout of government officials, diplomatic corps members, and representatives from Luxembourg’s business and civic communities.

Guests enjoyed a variety of British food and drink throughout the evening, providing a flavourful glimpse into Britain’s rich culinary landscape. Adding to the festive atmosphere were a vintage double-decker bus, two Grenadier Guards, and a special exhibit of two classic MG cars from the Luxembourg MG Car Club.

In her speech, Ambassador Fleur Thomas reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to supporting Ukraine. Highlighting her enduring relationship with the Mriya Ukrainian Saturday school in Luxembourg, Ambassador Thomas announced the donation of a special birthday cake to the school, ensuring that the children have an opportunity to partake in His Majesty The King’s Birthday celebrations.

Reflecting on her tenure, Ambassador Thomas further spoke about the achievements of the embassy and the evolution of UK-Luxembourg relations. “The UK shares many common values with Luxembourg, and I am happy that we have built a close relationship with Luxembourg’s policymakers,” she stated.

Ambassador Thomas extended her gratitude to HSBC Luxembourg for sponsoring the event, praising them as a reliable and valued partner over the years. As her posting in Luxembourg nears its end, she also expressed heartfelt thanks to those who welcomed her and supported her throughout her time in the Grand Duchy.
