During that period, Austrian journalist Christa Zöchling did everything in her power to save the family from the Taliban. The judge’s brother has already been living in Austria for several years, but the local government was still unwilling to help in the matter.

Zöchling spent weeks retracing the family’s steps to organise a rescue mission. After a number of setbacks and some additional help from renowned German journalist and feminist Alice Schwarzer, they eventually managed to approve a Luxembourgish visa for the family, and help them cross the Pakistani border.

From there, the judge and her family first travelled to Istanbul, from where they made the final trip to the Grand Duchy.
