
The Chamber of Deputies had ruled that all rents would be frozen until 30 June due to the pandemic.
Ministers Claude Meisch and Henri Kox confirmed that an administrative error had led to 31 students receiving a letter informing them of high rent increases. The ministers advised that the letters were incorrect and the students would not be charged a higher rate. The error has since been corrected.
Around 81 students have taken advantage of additional support measures put in place by the university, such as the option to postpone their rent for four months, or distribute their payments over the duration of their studies. Students also have the option of terminating their contract without prior notice.
A number of grants and vouchers aimed at students in financial difficulties have been paid out since March 2020, to the sum of 230,000 euros. Ten students also received new laptops.
