Reflecting on the previous year, 2023 proved to be a demanding period for job seekers, with a notable 15% increase reported in the number of individuals seeking employment. Conversely, available job positions experienced a sharp decline of 36%. This shift underscores the significant impact of economic downturn on employment opportunities.
Despite the evident demand surpassing the supply, numerous positions remain unfilled, particularly within sectors such as IT, finance, and education. ADEM attributes this discrepancy to several factors, including the requirement for highly specific skill sets, language proficiency expectations that are “too high,” and preferences for candidates with extensive experience.
Despite ADEM’s substantial investment in training initiatives, including recent efforts such as offering free licenses for the language learning platform “Babbel,” the Agency faces challenges in aligning available positions with registered job seekers.
However, amidst these challenges, a new legislation aims to streamline the process for individuals from third countries to seek employment in Luxembourg. ADEM clarifies that while this initiative does not necessarily translate to an influx of new arrivals, it does signify an expedited procedure for those seeking work opportunities within Luxembourg’s borders.
