Grand Duchess Stéphanie has been named the new president of the Luxembourg Red Cross, succeeding Grand Duchess Maria Teresa after her two decades in the role.
Grand Duchess Stéphanie has been appointed new president of the Luxembourg Red Cross, succeeding Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, who held the role for 20 years. The organisation's assembly confirmed the appointment on Tuesday, with the change taking effect upon the signing of the corresponding grand-ducal decree.
In a statement, the Red Cross thanked Grand Duchess Maria Teresa for her two decades of service, praising her commitment to the organisation's humanitarian mission. "We would like to thank Her Royal Highness Grand Duchess Maria Teresa for her 20 years of dedication to the Luxembourg Red Cross. Her legacy within our organisation is immense. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you", vice president Michel Wurth notes.
The Luxembourg Red Cross is one of the country's largest actors in the fields of health, social services, youth work, and humanitarian aid, supported by more than a thousand volunteers and around 3,400 employees. Its activities range from international emergency response and care services to blood donation, rehabilitation, support for older people, assistance for migrants and refugees, crisis support, childcare facilities, and various therapeutic and social programmes for families.
