In a Facebook post marking the 'Dag vun der Lëtzebuerger Sprooch' (Day of the Luxembourgish Language), British ambassador to Luxembourg Joanne Olivier highlighted her admiration for the country's multilingualism and emphasised the importance of the language to its culture.
Since taking up her post as British ambassador to Luxembourg in April, Joanne Olivier has already picked up a few Luxembourgish phrases during her short time in the Grand Duchy – including the obligatory 'Gromperekichelcher'.
Last Friday was the Day of the Luxembourgish Language and the new ambassador took to social media to address the importance of the language, her amazement at the level of multilingualism, and how she looks forward to learning more. She also went on to emphasise the slogan of the campaign Schwätzt mat – Lëtzebuergesch verbënnt ("Speak along – Luxembourgish connects"). She went on to say 'speaking together builds bridges, creates friendships, and strengthens our community'.
