On 1 January 2025, Luxembourg's population stood at 681,973, an increase of just over 9,900 people compared to the same date a year earlier, according to the latest demographic review by National Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies (STATEC).
The rise is driven largely by migration. Over the course of 2024, 25,725 people moved to Luxembourg, while 16,444 left to settle abroad. Meanwhile, 7,415 individuals obtained Luxembourgish nationality, including 1,523 who do not actually reside in the Grand Duchy.
The country also registered 6,459 births and 4,471 deaths, leaving both natural population growth and net migration contributing to a total increase of 9,923 people in a single year.
As for the bigger picture, life expectancy in Luxembourg is 85 years for women and around 81 years for men. The population remains almost evenly split between genders, though men currently hold a slight edge: 342,812 versus 339,161 women.
The review also revealed that more than 2,576 marriages and 1,197 divorces were recorded last year in Luxembourg.
