The Munich Philharmonic and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra will perform in Luxembourg in the coming weeks, under the direction of Israeli conductor Lahav Shani.

Luxembourg's Ministry of Culture confirmed the performance would be going ahead.

Culture minister Eric Thill rejected demands for the concert to be cancelled due to Israel's actions in Gaza, after a Collectives4Palestine demonstration took place outside the concert hall in Kirchberg on Thursday.

In Gent, Belgium, the Munich Philharmonic has been uninvited from a festival this week as the conductor is also a conductor in Israel and has not distanced himself from the Israeli government's political stance.

Thill went on to say the concerts were purely musical without government messages and symbols. Art was the central focus point.

The Philharmonie supports these arguments. In an email to RTL, organisers said they would keep the wider context in mind in the run up to the concert, and the concerns expressed by critical voices in relation to the programming would be taken seriously.

The Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra is also due to perform in Cologne and Paris.
