Authorities report a collision between a van and a car on Monday evening, making it the deadliest road accident in Luxembourg this year.

The serious crash happened around 6.10pm on Monday on the N15 between Feulen and Heiderscheid. According to initial information, the two vehicles collided head-on, after which they caught fire. Both were completely destroyed by the flames.

Significant emergency resources were dispatched to the scene. Ambulances from Redange, Nordstad, Hosingen, Lintgen, Feulen, Wiltz, Allerborn, Bourscheid, Colmar-Berg-Schieren, and Luxembourg City were mobilised, along with the Samu from Ettelbruck, an Air Rescue helicopter, and firefighters from six fire and rescue centres. A psychological support team was also present. Despite these efforts, the five occupants of the two vehicles died instantly.

Forensic police also went to the site to fully investigate the circumstances of this tragic road accident. The section of road remained closed for the entire duration of the rescue operations, clean-up, and investigative work.

On Tuesday morning, the public prosecutor appointed an investigating judge to lead the inquiry, with the main task of establishing the identity of the five victims who burned in the vehicles. DNA analyses are being carried out at Luxembourg's National Health Laboratory (LNS) in Dudelange.

At this stage, no further details on the cause of the crash have been communicated. According to RTL sources, one of the vehicles is believed to have moved into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a van, which is thought to have belonged to the Adapto transport service.
