Luxembourg's 685th Schueberfouer opens on 22 August with a new Family Day format, enhanced sustainability measures, and traditional favourites like the mayor-served charity dinners, municipal officials announced Tuesday.

The 685th edition of Luxembourg's iconic Schueberfouer will commence on Friday, 22 August at 5pm, as confirmed by municipal officials Patrick Goldschmidt and Laurent Schwaller during a briefing at the Citizen's Centre.

Key dates

The festivities begin on 22 August at 5pm with an official opening by Luxembourg City Mayor Lydie Polfer, followed by the traditional ham and cake reception at Friture Armand, hosted by the municipal executive board ("Schäfferot").

Mayors' Day follows on 26 August, when municipal leaders from across the country will serve as waiters in fairground restaurants between 7pm and 10pm for charitable purposes.

This year introduces an expanded Family Day format spanning two Wednesdays: 27 August will feature discounted attraction prices, while the subsequent Wednesday offers reduced food prices.

Queens' Day will take place on 28 August at 5pm.

The festivities continue with "Fouersonndeg" on 31 August, almost coinciding with Luxembourg City's street market on 1 September.

The fair's mascot Lämmy will make special appearances on 2 and 4 September, distributing free attraction tickets to lucky visitors.

Traditional events include the Fairground Workers' Mass at 11am on 5 September, followed by the floral tribute at the John the Blind monument at noon.

The following week features "Lämmy Fouer Games Day" on 8 September, with prize giveaways throughout the day.

The 2025 edition concludes on 10 September with discounted attractions (50% off until 8pm) and the traditional closing fireworks at 10pm.

Transportation remains unchanged

This year's mobility concept mirrors previous editions. The Grand Théâtre underground car park will remain closed throughout the event, while paid parking will be in effect around Glacis.

Visitors can use the free Navette 37 shuttle service running from 11.30am to 1am between Glacis and Bouillon car park. All regular bus and tram services will operate normally and remain free of charge during the Schueberfouer period.

Pricing structure

Attendees should expect similar costs to previous years, as municipal officials clarified that individual fairground operators determine pricing. Goldschmidt noted organisers have encouraged vendors to maintain pricing consistent with smaller regional funfairs. A notable example this year sees three Gromperekichelcher (potato fritters) priced at €7.50.

Environmental measures

This year's event introduces enhanced sustainability efforts under professional supervision. Specialised staff will monitor waste separation at food stands and work to minimise food waste through improved inventory management.

The municipality has allocated part of the Schueberfouer's total budget of over €1 million to sustainability programmes and expects all 213 operators to comply with these environmental initiatives.
