Luxembourg’s mandatory collective leave is about to come in effect for building and civil engineering firms as well as plumbing, heating and air conditioning installation companies, with sector-specific dates and exemption rules.

For the building and civil engineering sector, this year’s leave period runs from 25 July to 17 August. Exemptions may be granted for specific cases including school renovation projects, factory repairs during production shutdowns, or urgent maintenance work. The ad hoc construction committee has approved 147 of the 157 submitted exemption requests.

Compliance with these regulations will be monitored throughout the summer by the Inspectorate of Labour and Mines (ITM), Customs authorities, and police forces.

The plumbing, heating, and air conditioning sector will observe its collective leave from 4 to 24 August in 2025. While only five exemption requests were filed in this sector, approval requires agreement from both staff delegations and affected employees, and is limited to troubleshooting, maintenance or repair work.

33 companies not subject to the mandatory leave provisions still submitted exemption requests.
