
The Global Liveability Index 2025 has been released, assessing cities worldwide based on factors such as stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure.
Each category was scored out of 100 points, drawing on over 30 qualitative and quantitative metrics, with the final index reflecting the average across all five.
Copenhagen topped the ranking with a near-perfect 98.0 out of 100. Close behind were Vienna and Zurich, tied for second place at 97.1, followed by Melbourne (97.0), Sydney (96.6), Osaka (96.0), Auckland (96.0), Adelaide (95.9), and Vancouver (95.8).
Luxembourg City narrowly missed the top 10, securing 11th place with a score of 95.6 – a notable climb of six spots compared to last year.
At the other end of the scale, Dhaka, Bangladesh (41.7), Tripoli, Libya (40.1), and Damascus, Syria (30.7) ranked among the least liveable cities.
The most significant improvement came from Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, which surged 13 places to 135th with a score of 62.5. In contrast, Calgary, Canada, experienced the steepest decline, dropping from 5th to 18th despite maintaining a relatively high score of 94.7.
