Ten people were injured in a major traffic accident involving a Luxembourgish minibus near Leonberg in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, at approximately 3pm on Sunday.
Two people have been seriously injured in a collision involving two vehicles near Leonberg in Baden-Württemberg, German police have confirmed. A helicopter was deployed as part of the emergency response.
According to RTL sources, a Luxembourg-registered minibus was involved in the accident. The vehicle was reportedly carrying members of the Kolping ASBL, Nidderfeelen chapter, and is understood to have been loaned from the commune of Feulen.
According to police reports published by the Stuttgarter Zeitung, it is thought at this stage a Volkswagen Sprinter minibus collided with a guardrail near the autobhan exit before crashing into a Volkswagen Caddy, striking it forcefully on the passenger side.
The impact sent both vehicles over an embankment, where they came to rest near the exit ramp towards Karlsruhe. Initial reports suggest the Leonberg Volunteer Fire Department used hydraulic rescue equipment to free a person who had become trapped in the wreckage.
The two occupants of the Volkswagen Caddy, aged 67 and 70, received moderate injuries.
All occupants of the minibus were injured, at least two of the passengers seriously.
It is also reported that almost all people onboard the minibus were senior citizens aged 59 to 74.
All other people involved in the accident were also taken to nearby hospitals.
The Leonberg-West exit and entrance on the A8 were left completely closed while the accident was investigated. Both vehicles have since been towed away from the scene.
