A former board member of Luxembourg's Theatre Federation has been convicted of multiple paedophilia-based criminal offences – including possession of child sexual abuse material – prompting a strong statement of shock and condemnation from the organisation.

The Luxembourg Theatre Federation has expressed horror and dismay following the conviction of a former board member for multiple paedophilia-based criminal offences, including possession of child sexual abuse material.

The verdict, delivered on 27 March, sentenced the individual to 13 years in prison – five years to be served and eight suspended. The conviction is not final, as an appeal has been filed.

In a statement issued Tuesday evening, the Federation said it was "disappointed, devastated, shocked, and stunned" by the revelations, which only recently came to light.

The Federation emphasised that the crimes were committed in the individual's private life, unrelated to the cultural or theatrical sector. It condemned the acts, voiced solidarity with the victims, and called for their respectful and dignified treatment.

The court's 75-page judgement details a range of illegal activities. The Federation referred to these as "numerous illegal acts" and said there had been no prior indication or rumour of the individual's misconduct.

Neither RTL nor other media outlets or the Theatre Federation have named the individual to protect the victim.
