CentralisationTax offices in Clervaux and Wiltz to close by 2028

The tax offices in Clervaux and Wiltz will shut down by the end of 2027 or early 2028.

Luxembourg’s “Administration des contributions directes” (tax office) confirmed the closures to RTL, citing outdated infrastructure that no longer meets modern standards for security and accessibility.

To compensate, larger and more centralised offices are being developed in Ettelbruck – set to open in autumn 2026 – and in Hosingen, scheduled for early 2028.

Despite the closures, efforts are underway to maintain some form of tax service presence in Clervaux and Wiltz. Permanent positions are expected to remain in both towns. Clervaux Mayor Georges Keipes suggested that part of the service could be relocated to the town’s upcoming coworking space.

“We are very much in favour of maintaining tax services here in Clervaux,” Keipes said. “We’ve already opened discussions to explore the possibility of setting up a consultation point locally. The coworking space could be one option we’re keen to examine.”

However, this is far from guaranteed. The coworking space, by design, isn’t intended for public administration staff to meet with citizens. Whether an agreement can be reached remains to be seen.

The tax authority also noted that the majority of taxpayers now file their returns online or by post. While this digital trend is welcomed, the administration stressed that all citizens should continue to have the option to book in-person appointments at a tax office if needed.
