Despite being Europe’s richest country, Luxembourg continues to grapple with a high at-risk-of-poverty rate, which stood at 18.1% in 2024, according to data by the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (STATEC) published on Wednesday. While this marks a slight decrease from 18.8% in 2023, it means nearly one in five residents remains at risk of poverty.
The average monthly standard of living for a household in Luxembourg in 2024 was €4,867 per person. However, this figure masks significant disparities, particularly when it comes to child poverty. STATEC estimates that one in four children (24%) in the Grand Duchy lives in households with a monthly standard of living below €2,540 per person, placing them at a heightened risk of poverty.
Income inequality also remains a pressing issue. The average standard of living of the wealthiest 20% of the population is nearly five times higher than that of the least well-off 20%.
