In a letter to Donald Trump, MEP Fernand Kartheiser expressed "heartfelt gratitude" for his push for Ukraine peace talks, contrasting it with Europe's military-focused approach.
Member of European Parliament Fernand Kartheiser has voiced strong support for former US President Donald Trump's call for peace negotiations in Ukraine, describing him as a "peacemaker" and a "champion of freedom." In a letter to Trump, Kartheiser expressed his "heartfelt gratitude" for the initiative, which he believes is a crucial step towards preventing a renewed arms race.
Kartheiser contrasted Trump's approach with that of European leaders, stating that while many have urged the US to provide military security guarantees to Ukraine, Trump has "wisely" chosen diplomacy – a decision met with "much criticism."
He also welcomed Trump's intention to normalise relations with Russia, arguing that it would benefit not just the US but Europe and beyond.
The ADR politician reiterated his long-standing support for a ceasefire and peace negotiations, saying he had previously been dismissed and accused of sympathising with Russia. He also criticised Luxembourg's media, claiming it had taken a "militant, pro-war stance."
While advocating for peace, Kartheiser stressed the need for Europe to rebuild its military strength, ensuring operationally equipped forces while avoiding unnecessary military escalation. He assured Trump that he would continue supporting his peace efforts in the European Parliament and in discussions with representatives from Russia and Ukraine.
