On Saturday 1 March 2025, Luxembourg celebrates five years of free public transport.

On Friday, ahead of the fifth anniversary of free public transportation in Luxembourg, the government provided a positive review of the initiative.

However, for public transport to remain attractive for everyone, it needs further investment into the network. The number of train passengers has reached 31 million in 2024, a noticeable jump from 25 million in 2019.

Tram numbers experienced a massive increase – from 6 million users to 31 million in 2024. The tram's success can also be attributed to the steady expansion of the network, states the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works.

The ministry launched an inquiry to monitor the evolution of people's choices and habits of transportation. Precise data of everyday journeys is collected and analysed to create a base for the development of a new national mobility plan.
