The government has confirmed that the future of ArcelorMittal's industrial site in Bissen remains uncertain, with social dialogue set to take place between management and unions in the coming months.

On Friday, the government responded to a parliamentary question by the DP, confirming that the future of ArcelorMittal's industrial site in Bissen remains uncertain. As of last summer, the site employed 276 people.

In the coming months, discussions between ArcelorMittal’s management and unions will take place to determine the site's future and the fate of its employees. However, the government has not yet specified how many jobs may be at risk.

An initial meeting on 13 February brought together Economy Minister Lex Delles, union representatives, ArcelorMittal’s management, and the Labour Ministry to explore possible solutions. The government, unions, and company management have all expressed a commitment to developing a plan that serves the interests of all parties.

During last year’s steelworks tripartite meeting in June, the OGBL union criticised ArcelorMittal for its lack of investment in the Bissen site, warning that this had led to an “unprecedented crisis.”
