On Monday evening, the owner of the Bilsdorf farm that last week saw what is currently believed to be the biggest cocaine bust in the history of Luxembourg spoke to RTL reporters about the turbulent events of the last couple of days. He underlined that there is nothing to the rumours that one of his three sons is implicated in the crime and denied that he has been arrested in connection to the drugs.

The farmer recounted how police suddenly expressed strong interest in one of his machines last week, one that was simply “stationed next to the national road, not hidden whatsoever”. He explained that he had ordered the machine to be left there only “10 or 14 days ago” without having any suspicions about hidden content since his premises are occasionally used to temporarily stock equipment.

Police reportedly confiscated the industrial stone-crusher, in which the drugs were concealed, and dismantled it away from the farm. The machine of Columbian origin is believed to have contained up to 800kg of cocaine worth around €120 million.

“I was happy when everything was removed”, said the farm owner in conversation with RTL.

While none of the farmers sons were arrested after the bust, the prosecutor’s office has confirmed that two men aged 38 and 43 are currently in pre-trial detention in connection to the drug operation.
