Death toll 'unacceptable'Luxembourg's Serbian community calls for accountability after fatal Novi Sad accident

RTL Today
Protesters in Luxembourg City gathered on Saturday to show solidarity with a student-led movement in Serbia, which has been demanding accountability for the fatal collapse of a train station roof in Novi Sad last November.

As protests in Serbia triggered by the fatal collapse of a train station roof in Novi Sad in November enter the fourth month, close to 100 protestors gathered at Place Clairefontaine in Luxembourg City on Saturday in a show of solidarity. The university student-led movement has already put significant pressure on the government, spurring the resignation of several high-ranking officials, including that of Prime Minister Milos Vucevic in early February.

The protest group in Luxembourg City convened at midday and dedicated 15 minutes to the memory of the 15 people who died on 1 November 2024. Participants shared their frustrations over what they believe was not an isolated accident, but rather a symptomatic display of a system which has neglected its people for too long.

One of the protesters confirmed that they support the students and their request for further investigation into the people responsible for the fatal collapse. She emphasised the need for a reaction from various institutions, labelling the death toll “unacceptable.”
