As MPs were debating the planned liberalisation of shop opening hours on Wednesday, members of the OGBL and LCGB protested against the measure outside the Chamber of Deputies.
On Wednesday afternoon, members of the Independent Luxembourg Trade Union Confederation (OGBL) and the Luxembourg Confederation of Christian Trade Unions (LCGB) staged a demonstration outside the Chamber of Deputies to protest against the planned liberalisation of shop opening hours.
According to the unions, approximately 60 participants, primarily staff representatives from the retail sector, attended the demonstration. LCGB unionist Tiago Afonso explained that the aim was to convey to members of the Labour and Economy Committees, who are meeting with the relevant ministers on Wednesday, that the impact of the proposed changes extends beyond the retail sector. Afonso highlighted that sectors such as cleaning and security would also be affected.
