An attempted ATM theft in Reisdorf on Friday ended in failure, with the culprits leaving empty-handed and causing only material damage.
A spokesperson for the bank confirmed on Monday that no cash was stolen.
Despite successfully blowing the ATM out of the wall, the perpetrators were unable to access any money. The spokesperson added that even if cash had been taken it would have been rendered useless, as it would be discoloured and destroyed by security measures.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, 17 January, near the Reisdorf train station. A group of unknown individuals detonated an explosive device with such force that the ATM's metal frame was propelled into the station building.
Fortunately, no-one was injured in the explosion. Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
