Prime Minister Luc Frieden and Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel have expressed relief following the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, which is to be implemented on Sunday and last six weeks.

Prime Minister Luc Frieden welcomed the ceasefire agreement as a “positive step forward”, expressing happiness on X after “15 months of spilled blood”. He urges both Israel and Hamas to sign and adhere to the agreement in the hours following its announcement. He also emphasised the need for both sides to respect the terms of the deal.

Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel shared his relief at the news, stressing the importance of fully implementing the agreement. He highlighted the urgent need for humanitarian aid to finally reach Gaza, pointing out that there is no alternative to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and hopes that Israel understands this.
