The Chamber’s executive budget commission has decided to launch legal complaints against the Pirate Party and the Alternative Democratic Reform Party (ADR) due to alleged violations of party financing laws.

The denunciation against the Pirates was made over a car leasing contract, which the Court of Auditors flagged as lacking conformity with the campaign financing laws. According to the Court’s report, there was no financial trace of the vehicle in 2023. It was also unclear what the use of the car, which was at the disposal of an elected party member, had to do with the activities of the party.

The second denunciation, made by Chamber President Claude Wiseler, concerns the declaration of honour – or rather lack thereof – of the ADR’s candidates during the 2023 Chamber election. Candidates are obliged under the threat of legal prosecution to formally submit a declaration that they will not accept donations exceeding €250, and none of the ADR’s 60 candidates did so.

MP Franz Fayot of the Luxembourg Socialist Workers’ Party (LSAP) on Monday confirmed the proceedings to RTL.
