Authorities in Luxembourg are investigating allegations of sexual misconduct linked to a theatre group at a secondary school in Esch-sur-Alzette.

Luxembourg's judicial authorities have confirmed an ongoing investigation into alleged sexual offences linked to a secondary school in Esch-sur-Alzette. The inquiry is being conducted by investigators specialising in youth protection within the Criminal Police Service.

On Tuesday, 7 January, 16 investigators were deployed to carry out searches and interviews at various locations, including the offices and homes of teachers, students, and former students. The investigation, which began in November 2024, stems from testimony gathered at the school and focuses on activities connected to "a theatre group affiliated with Lycée Hubert Clément in Esch-sur-Alzette".

According to the public prosecutor's office, members of the group – organised by the non-profit responsible for the school's youth theatre activities – may have been involved in "sexually motivated misconduct" during a particular activity organised by the group. However, the authorities did not elaborate on the nature of the alleged behaviour.

As part of the inquiry, "several adults and minors, including teachers, current students, and alumni, have been interviewed". The investigation remains ongoing, with further details yet to be disclosed. The judicial authorities emphasised that all individuals involved are presumed innocent under Luxembourg law.

The Ministry of Education announced in a press release that the theatre group's activities have been suspended for the time being. Teachers implicated in the case have also been suspended from duty pending the outcome of the investigation. The ministry stated the measures aim to "protect the interests of all parties involved."
