The National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (STATEC) has published the 2024 edition of "Luxembourg in figures", offering a statistical overview of the country and its society.

Everyone knows that Luxembourg is a small, prosperous country at the heart of Europe. But if you had to boil it down to a few figures ranging from one to 5.2 trillion, it might go something like this:

1: Luxembourg is the only Grand Duchy in the world.

3: The country has three official languages: Luxembourgish, French, and German.

15: In 2024, 15% of Luxembourg's population is aged over 65, while 15.5% are under 15.

31.2: The average age of women having their first child in Luxembourg. In 2023, a total of 6,320 children were born in the country.

1,359: The number of divorces in Luxembourg in 2023, compared to 2,539 marriages celebrated in the same year.

3,970: The median income per adult in Luxembourg in euros, indicating that half of all adults earn less than this amount while the other half earn more.

12,928: Again in euros, this is the average salary in Niederanven. It is the highest in the whole country.

550,580: This figure represents the total number of vehicles in Luxembourg's car fleet, which includes 453,614 cars. Among these, there are 444,818 registered private vehicles, comprising 13,909 electric cars and 36,253 hybrids. Luxembourg has a car density of 678 cars per 1,000 inhabitants, ranking second in Europe behind Italy, which has 684.

5,200,000,000,000: That's a lot of zeros, and for those who can't be bothered to count, it's 5.2 trillion. This figure corresponds to the total assets under management in investment funds in Luxembourg. In 2023, this accounted for more than a quarter of the market share in the European Union.
