Luxembourg police have launched an appeal for witnesses related to the fatal accident that led to the closure of the road between Frisange and Alzingen on Monday.

On Monday morning, a car and a motorcycle were involved in a crash on Route de Thionville between Frisange and Alzingen. The collision occurred at 6.20am and led to the closure of the road.

Despite the mobilisation of several paramedics and other emergency personnel, the motorcyclist ultimately succumbed to his injuries, as confirmed by the police on late Monday morning.

The victim, a 39-year-old man, died on the site of the accident. The forensic police were despatched to secure evidence related to the incident. According to the bulletin issued by the emergency services, the driver of the car was not injured.

Witness appeal 

Preliminary information indicates that the motorcyclist was travelling in the direction of Schlammesté on the Alzingen section of the road when he lost control over his bike while overtaking a bus and fell.

He ended up in the opposite lane, where he was caught in a collision with two cars travelling in the opposite direction towards Alzingen. The section was completely closed to traffic until 2pm to allow emergency services and police to intervene.

In this context, the police are looking for other eyewitnesses that may be able to provide more information regarding the cause of the accident. Witnesses are asked to contact the police, either by calling (+352) 244 40 1000 or by writing an e-mail to Police.LUXEMBOURG@police.etat.lu.
