During his appearance on RTL-Afterwork, former Prime Minister and President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker addressed the ongoing rumors regarding his alleged alcoholism.

Retired from his duties at the European Commission in 2019, Jean-Claude Juncker hasn't lost his wit.

Long accused of alcoholism, particularly after public appearances where he appeared unsteady on his feet, the 69-year-old former Prime Minister has addressed the issue head-on.

He recalls suffering from severe back pain after a car accident in the late 80s, with some episodes culminating in crises, such as at the NATO summit in 2018. This incident sparked discussions in European media about possible alcoholism.

“They claimed I would drink six cognacs with my morning coffee and that I was constantly drunk... This made me angry, but not anymore,” he stated. “My wife gets upset when she reads these claims, but I’ve managed to distance myself from them.”

The former President of the European Commission is now working on a book. "I'll write about Luxembourg one day, but before I do, some people have to die,” he said with humour.
