Luxembourg is grappling with a growing outbreak of bluetongue disease, with nearly 900 animals now infected, according to the latest ALVA report.
Bluetongue disease continues to spread across Luxembourg, with 883 animals affected on 386 farms, according to the Luxembourg Veterinary and Food Administration (ALVA).
On Wednesday, ALVA confirmed 98 new cases of the disease, detected over the past week. Laboratory tests revealed that the outbreak has now reached 26 additional farms.
In total, 883 animals have been infected, including 734 cattle, 140 sheep, eight goats, and one alpaca.
ALVA also reported an increase in mortality among cattle and sheep for August 2024 compared to the same period last year. Livestock owners noticing higher death rates are encouraged to report them using an official form provided by ALVA.
Vaccines remain available to combat the disease. Of the 240,000 doses ordered, approximately 91,300 have been distributed to veterinarians so far.
