The International School Michel Lucius (ISML) held a charity run at Limpertsberg's Parc Tony Neuman in order to raise money for the Fondation Cancer.
The solidarity event was held in remembrance of staff member Rudy Maquet, as pupils at the ISML worked hard to raise over €8,000 for the cancer charity. At the time of handing over the cheque, the total was €6,114; now, the donated amount has increased to €8,523.
"This year, ISML chose to do a charity run to support the Fondation Cancer Luxembourg to finance a dedicated research project: the Diomedes research project, because Glioblastoma impacted one of our school members directly. Hopefully, this fosters a sense of empathy and community in our students, while contributing to vital advancements in medical science that can save lives,” said Mr. Scott Morton, teacher at the International School Michel Lucius.
During the cheque ceremony, Margot Heirendt, director of the Fondation Cancer, thanked all participants for their generosity. The donations will enable the foundation to continue financing vital research projects.
The amount raised by the charity run will be shared with the Diomedes research project, in accordance with the organisers' wishes. This project, headed by Dr. Anna Golebiewska, is jointly funded by the Fondation Cancer and the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR, and seeks to analyse how tumour cells and their microenvironment can change during treatment. The results of this project should enable more personalised treatment plans to take place in future.
