German department store group Breuninger has been the subject of sale rumours over the past week, leading to questions on the future of its subsidiary, Bram, which is situated in the City Concorde shopping centre in Bertrange
German media reported on the potential sale of the Breuninger department stores this week, suggesting there was interest from some 30-odd parties to purchase the group's various properties. One of these is the Bram department store in City Concorde, Luxembourg.
On Thursday, the OGBL trade union issued a press release in which they said Bram management representatives had reassured the union that no jobs in Luxembourg would be put at risk over the discussions.
The union hit out at the fact they were only made aware of the potential sale through the media, and said the store management could neither confirm nor deny the rumours. The union is in the process of updating the collective agreement for store employees, although discussions began in November last year and are yet to be concluded. The OGBL said they would remain in contact with staff amid the rumours and would endeavour to reassure employees to the best of their ability.
