The spread of bluetongue disease in Luxembourg continues, with the Veterinary and Food Administration announcing 166 new cases, pushing the overall count to 658.

In its latest update published on Wednesday, the Luxembourg Veterinary and Food Administration (ALVA) reported that since 1 August 2024, the virus causing bluetongue disease has been detected in 514 cattle, 136 sheep, and eight goats across Luxembourg, affecting 313 farms in total.

Farmers have noted an increased mortality rate, particularly among sheep and goats, compared to August 2023.

In response to the outbreak, 240,000 vaccine doses have been delivered since the vaccination campaign began on 9 August, with 70,000 doses already distributed.
