A new STATEC report has revealed that Porto, Lisbon, and Frankfurt were the top three flight destinations from Luxembourg's Findel Airport in 2023, with Porto significantly leading the list as a favourite among travellers.

The National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (STATEC) and the Air Navigation Authority have unveiled the top 15 flight destinations from Findel airport in 2023. Apart from airports offering connecting flights for passengers departing from Luxembourg, STATEC notes that most people still travel to classic "tourist destinations".

The most popular city from Findel is Porto by far, with 490,700 passengers counted. Since 2019, there has been an increase in visitors from Findel airport of 45%. Lisbon ranks second, with more than 308,000 visitors flying to the Portuguese capital from Luxembourg in 2023.

The third place goes to Frankfurt am Main, where Luxembourgers tend to take advantage of the huge airport to find connections to destinations further afield.

Palma de Mallorca ranks fourth as a nearby tourist destination that is very popular with Luxembourgers. Here, STATEC observes an increase in visitors from Luxembourg of 49% since 2019.

Nice also performed well, moving up from 17th to ninth place compared to the 2019 ranking. Barcelona achieved a similar improvement with +31% of travellers and is now in 10th place. Amsterdam, on the other hand, is down to seventh, with 24,000 fewer passengers than in 2019, as is Munich on eighth place, with around 63,000 fewer passengers.
