In response to a planned EASA initiative, the LCGB has voiced strong objections to a proposal that would cut the number of pilots on commercial flights to one during the cruise phase.
The Luxembourg Confederation of Christian Trade Unions (LCGB) has expressed concern over a proposed initiative by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
The proposal under review by EASA suggests reducing the number of pilots on commercial flights to just one during the cruise phase. The LCGB is concerned by Luxembourg's plan to implement this proposal starting in 2027, without prior consultation with industry stakeholders.
The trade union emphasises the importance of passenger and crew safety, referencing a European study on pilot fatigue. The LCGB argues that effective safety systems must be in place to detect pilot exhaustion. The union has called on the government to take responsibility and engage in detailed discussions with industry professionals to address these concerns.
