The Luxembourg Veterinary and Food Administration (ALVA) has reported a significant rise in bluetongue disease cases, with 492 animals across 246 farms now infected. The affected animals include 361 cattle, 125 sheep, and six goats.
Between 20 August and 27 August, an additional 153 animals tested positive for the disease, with infections detected on 66 more farms during this period.
Since the vaccination campaign began on 9 August, 240,000 doses have been delivered, and 70,000 vaccines have been distributed to veterinarians.
ALVA advises farm operators to contact the administration immediately if they observe increased mortality rates among their livestock.
Bluetongue disease typically presents with symptoms such as fever and a blue-tinged tongue and can often be fatal to infected animals. The ongoing vaccination campaign aims to curb the spread of the disease. There is no risk to humans from this disease.
