Get ready for a stunning supermoon visible from Sunday to Tuesday. An astronomical event that should not be missed.

A supermoon is on its way! And this, a mere week after the Perseid meteor shower which lit up the early August skies with shooting stars. From Sunday through Tuesday, the moon will be at its closest to Earth, appearing significantly larger and brighter than usual.

But that’s not all. Next week's supermoon is also  a "Blue Moon" - a term that doesn’t describe the moon’s colour but rather signifies the third full moon in a season with four full moons. Additionally, a Blue Moon can also denote the second full moon occurring within a single calendar month, a phenomenon that happens roughly every two to three years. The English expression "once in a blue moon" reflects this rarity however, August of this year will only feature one full moon.

If you happen to miss this supermoon, don’t worry. August marks the beginning of a series of four consecutive supermoons. According to NASA, the full moons in September and October will also come exceptionally close to Earth. So, dust off your telescope and keep your eyes on the sky!
