Vianden's iconic outdoor swimming pool, known for its breathtaking views of Vianden Castle, reopened after five years with eco-friendly upgrades, though initial ticket pricing glitches caused some early challenges.
The country's best-known and arguably most scenic outdoor swimming pool in Vianden reopened its doors after five years on 15 July. During the closure, those in charge of the site completely overhauled the technical aspects of the pool, which now meets all the standards, particularly in terms of ecology and sustainability, with climate-neutral heating and a shallower, narrower 50-m pool to save water.
Despite bolstering a new ticketing system and state-of-the-art infrastructure, a few problems still made for a bumpy start to the season due to incorrect ticket prices being listed. However, visitors were quick to point out the issue, which has in the meantime been resolved, according to Vianden Mayor François Weyrich.
As the capacity of 500 people cannot be exceeded as long as the 50m pool remains unaccessible, visitors are advised to purchase their tickets online beforehand. Swimmers will be able to do their laps in the bigger pool as of next year. In addition, the children's pool will be relocated and modernised, Mayor Weyrich revealed in conversation with RTL.
Once the large pool opens to the public in 2025, the capacity will be increased to a maximum of 1,110 visitors. The changing rooms will also be refurbished over the next few years.
Although this means that a lot of work still needs to be carried out, visitors are nevertheless delighted to be able to enjoy the outdoor venue with its unique view of Vianden Castle, because for many residents, the pool has been synonymous with summer holidays since childhood.
