Police reported a series of burglaries on Thursday, as a number of investigations have been opened into the incidents.
Two flats were broken into in a building on rue du Commerce in Kayl on Thursday afternoon. The perpetrators searched the first apartment before moving on to the second, where they were discovered by a resident. The individuals fled the scene.
In Gasperich, a burglar targeted a café on Route d'Esch, where the suspect stole from the cash register before running away from the premises.
Police issue warning regarding "glue trick"
The Grand Ducal police has published a warning of a common trick used by thieves to determine whether a house is empty or not.
Over the last few days, officers have noted a number of occurrences in which burglars have gained access to common areas in apartment buildings. The thieves then use very fine glue fibres in the lower corners of apartment entrance doors to check if the residents are at home or not. If the fibres remain intact, this signals to the thieves that the occupant is not at home, leaving them free to attempt a burglary.
Police urge residents to contact 113 if they discover any unusual substances or glue residue on their front doors.
