During his visit to Luxembourg on Tuesday, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi expressed gratitude to the Grand Duchy for its "steadfast stance" on the ongoing conflict.

Luxembourg's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Xavier Bettel, reiterated criticism against the Israeli government. On the one hand, he highlighted the humanitarian impact of the Israeli military operations in Gaza and the expansion of settlements on Palestinian territory. Secondly, Bettel criticised the Israeli government for ignoring international law.

In response, Ayman Safadi called for the UN Security Council to adopt a "Chapter 7" resolution, which would initiate actions to put an end to the war. Safadi specifically advocated for potential sanctions against Israel or a suspension of arms deliveries. "Israel no longer listens to anyone, not even its close allies," according to the Jordanian minister. If the world agreed that the war had to stop, then these instruments would have to be used, Safadi stressed.

Regarding the two-state solution, the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) remains a key partner for Jordan. The Jordanian Foreign Minister also felt that Hamas cannot be destroyed with bombs, because Hamas is an "idea." Safadi believes that an alternative must be proposed in people's minds. To do this, the war must be brought to an end, because, according to the foreign ministers of Jordan and Luxembourg, hatred is only increasing on both sides.

On Monday, Xavier Bettel met with Sven Koopmans, the EU's special representative for the Middle East peace process.
