Luxembourg City's annual 'Sports Weeks' programme, a cherished tradition of over 40 years, is back and set to engage youths aged 11–17 with a diverse array of athletic activities from 16 July to 23 August, with limited spots still available.
Luxembourg City is gearing up for another active summer with its annual 'Sports Weeks' programme, offering a multitude of athletic activities for youths aged 11–17 during the school holidays. Despite the high demand, there are still some available spots.
A long-standing tradition with a history of over 40 years, these sports weeks are providing a platform for young people to engage in a variety of sports, meet new people, and foster a spirit of mutual respect. This year, the programme runs from 16 July to 23 August and includes six 'Mini Sports Weeks' for children aged 11–12 and 13 'Sports Weeks' for those aged 13–17. Each programme lasts between four to seven days and can include overnight stays, either in Luxembourg or abroad.
City officials note that the event offers participants the chance to try new sports, refine their skills, and enjoy a supportive and friendly environment. Emphasising healthy lifestyles, the programme further promotes balanced nutrition and adequate rest before and after physical activities. The initiative thereby aligns with the municipality's goal of encouraging youth from all social backgrounds to participate in physical and sporting activities, contributing to their overall well-being and development.
Although most of the approximately 310 available spots are filled, a few places remain. For 11–12-year-old kids, spots are available in the 'mini multisports' sessions in Luxembourg and the 'mini sailing' programme in the Netherlands. For the 13–17 age group, places are open in the 'dance arts' and 'wakeboarding' sessions in Luxembourg.
The city's press release stresses that all sports activities are conducted by state-certified trainers in collaboration with numerous local sports clubs. Overall supervision is provided by qualified animators who have completed theoretical and practical training recognised by the Ministry of National Education, Children, and Youth.
Registrations are open to all youths aged 11 to 17. The programme is slightly more expensive for non-residents of the capital. Interested participants can find details and registration forms at various locations, including the Bierger-Center, City Hall, the Rocade, the municipality's Sports Service, and online at sports.vdl.lu.
