In light of the tram line extension to Stade de Luxembourg, Hesperange Mayor Marc Lies has expressed serious concerns about the incomplete infrastructure at the 'Scillas' stop, urging Luxtram and the Roads Authority to address the safety issues immediately.

Since Sunday, tram line 1 has been operational from Kirchberg to Cloche d'Or, near the new stadium. The five additional stops o this extension are primarily located in the capital, but also partially in the municipality of Hesperange, which includes Howald. While Luxtram celebrates meeting its schedule, the development of the surrounding infrastructure has lagged, according to Mayor Lies, who described the situation at the 'Scillas' stop as a "disgrace". The politician emphasised that the top priority is to resolve the problems with pedestrian crossings and traffic lights as quickly as possible.

The ongoing construction noise is another source of disturbance. Some may argue this alerts commuters to be more cautious when using the tram. However, near the tennis club, between the courts and Rue des Scillas, the area is chaotic with no pedestrian crossings or fully functional traffic lights. The unfinished infrastructure at the Scillas tram stop poses a danger to tram users and workers alike.

Mayor Lies clarified that he supports the tram extension but is disappointed by Luxtram and the Roads Authority's failure to fulfil promises made over seven years of regular meetings. The work is expected to take at least another six months, during which time the hazards at this location will persist, for which his municipality could be held accountable under an 18th-century decree.

There is still no road surface in sight for this section of the N3, and there is no access to the office buildings and future housing, complains Marc Lies. While the tram does not bring immediate relief to the municipality in terms of traffic, the development of the surrounding area with a bypass will be "an interesting next step," according to Lies.

Hesperange is now demanding that Luxtram and the Roads Authority resolve this "deplorable" situation by prioritising the completion of pedestrian crossings and the operation of traffic lights as quickly as possible.
