The National Employment Agency (ADEM) reported an increase in unemployment figures in May. Almost 17,500 residents were registered with ADEM in May, representing a 15% increase on the same month in 2023.
The largest increase was noted in young people aged under 30, as well as more qualified candidates such as people with higher education or university diplomas.
The number of new registrations also rose in May by around 2.6%.
In a press release, ADEM said there were 51 Ukrainian refugees included among the new registrations last month. Unlike refugees from other countries, Ukrainians fleeing the war in their home country are entitled to a "temporary protection" status and may therefore start work immediately.
Around 3,500 job vacancies were reported to ADEM in May. This number has remained stable in comparison to the same time period last year.
