In response to significant traffic disruptions caused by Euro 2024 border checks, Minister Gloden announced an agreement with German authorities to discontinue checkpoints on border bridges and maintain two lanes in the construction zone behind the Sauerdall motorway bridge.
Minister for Home Affairs Léon Gloden on Wednesday issued a statement to address the ongoing checks at Luxembourg's border to Germany, which have been introduced at the beginning of Euro 2024 to monitor the influx of visitors, and which have led to significant traffic disruptions during peak commuter times.
Gloden announced that he once more engaged in discussions with his German counterpart Nancy Faeser to find potential solutions to the problem, expressing concerns that the already dense traffic should not grind to a halt during rush hour. Furthermore, Luxembourg and German police met on Wednesday and agreed to discontinue checkpoints on border bridges and to ensure two lanes would be available in the construction zone behind the Sauerdall motorway bridge.
