In 2023, 19% of residents in Luxembourg faced the risk of falling into poverty, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (STATEC) on Monday.
This marks a 1.5% increase from 2022, despite rising household revenues and several wage indexations.
The poverty risk is particularly pronounced among those under 18 years of age and single-parent households. STATEC reports that approximately 30,000 children, or about one in four, are at risk of living in poverty. The poverty rate for children stands at 23.9%, while for those over 60, it is 11%.
STATEC also highlights a significant disparity in living standards: the wealthiest 20% of Luxembourg residents have a living standard 4.8 times higher than that of the poorest 20%.
