Luxembourg's government has issued advice on protecting oneself against scammers offering fake tickets to this summer's major events, including the Paris Olympics and the Euros in Germany.
"Pay double attention when buying tickets online", warns the government, as this summer promises a host of major concerts or sporting events. The European Championships are set to kick off next week, while the Olympic Games will follow not long after - and with such in-demand events, scams can be rife.
Anyone selling tickets to such events must provide all essential information on the price, category, and seating placement at the venue. All fees must be listed clearly, as well as the customer's rights to returns or complaints procedures.
Customers are advised to pay particular attention to any cancellation insurance policies, as these may not always keep their promises. Prior to purchasing a ticket, it is important to ensure any terms and conditions have been carefully checked and understood. In cases where the event is cancelled, organisers must refund the ticket in full; if an event is delayed or rescheduled, customers should be offered the choice to attend the new date or receive a full refund.
The Minister of Consumer Protection, Martine Hansen, encourages people to only purchase tickets via official channels, in spite of temptation from unofficial sources. She warns of online scams offering fake or overpriced tickets, adding that in the event of cancellation, unofficial resellers may only offer the original ticket price, leaving customers to bear any additional costs.
