
The Ministry of the Environment believes these inactive sites no longer pose a direct environmental threat, following approximately four decades of decomposition.
However, erosion caused by rainfall can occasionally bring plastic, glass, and metal to the surface. Minister of the Environment Serge Wilmes stressed that such occurrences are rare.
Minister Wilmes also noted that the responsibility for these 600-plus tips lies with the individual municipalities.
This information was disclosed in response to a parliamentary question from MPs André Bauler and Luc Emering of the Democratic Party (DP).
