The Minister of Education, Claude Meisch, announced on Monday morning that they will begin offering new programs tailored for future educators in Esch-Belval.
Until now, these studies were only available in Mersch or in Luxembourg City. On one hand, starting from September 2024, Lycée Bel-Val will provide two second-year classes, each accommodating 50 students. On the other hand, the Ecole Nationale pour Adultes (ENAD) will introduce an educator training program in Esch-Belval.
Additionally, the Minister announced that starting from the 2025/26 academic year, there will be an opportunity to enrol in a fully French-language educator training program.
"We don't want to exclude a significant portion of our young people by offering only German-language educator training. We recognise the importance of providing opportunities for all motivated individuals who aspire to join the profession. We need French-speaking professionals proficient in other languages or willing to learn them to remain employable across various sectors in Luxembourg. These classes will open not at the start of 2024, but at the start of 2025, both in initial training and vocational guidance at ENAD."
Currently, educator training programs are conducted half in German and half in French.
According to the Minister, the capacity to accommodate students could increase by 50 percent with the additional offerings. The educator school LTPES in Mersch is also expected to accommodate more students in the short to medium term.
