As part of World Immunisation Week, Luxembourg's health ministry has issued a reminder for people to check their vaccination status and ensure all vaccinations are up to date.
Luxembourg has one of the highest vaccination rates in the EU, according to the Ministry of Health. Despite this, it is still important to ensure all vaccines are up to date, as they can lose their effectiveness over time.
A recent example of the necessity of vaccination can be found in the rise in whooping cough cases this winter, particularly among young people.
Vaccine records have been available online since January 2022; however, the paper vaccination card still retains its validity. Vaccination recommendations by age can be found on the Sante.lu website, although it is advised to consult a doctor if there are any doubts.
To mark World Immunisation Week, health minister Martine Deprez highlighted the benefits of vaccination. "It may be entirely understandable that some may be skeptical about the development of new vaccines, but history has demonstrated that science proves their long-term validity, and that vaccinations not only provide individual protection, but guarantee collective protection," she wrote in a press release.
Deprez also emphasised the fact that no measles cases had been reported in Luxembourg, despite outbreaks elsewhere around the globe, as she praised the Grand Duchy's "effective" campaigns.
