Chamber president Claude Wiseler on Tuesday heralded a new era of transparency for parliament as it live-streamed a media commission session for the first time, with plans to extend streaming to other commissions.
The Chamber of Deputies on Tuesday celebrated a premiere as a session of its media commission was for a first time live streamed online. "Parliament continues opening up to the public and becomes more transparent", Chamber president Claude Wiseler commented the historic event.
The Chamber commissions for agriculture, housing, environment, and education will also be streamed in the future. While general sessions of parliament can already be viewed via 'Chamber TV', the commission meetings can be accessed on chd.lu.
Wiseler explained: "We only have one TV channel, but it might very well happen that two or three commissions are convening simultaneously, so we cannot broadcast everything. We would have been forced to make a choice between the commissions, which we did not want to do. By using the Chamber site we can stream all of them and that was important for us."
The politician from the Christian Social People's Party (CSV) continued to say that they will now monitor viewer numbers to evaluate interest in the sessions, though he stressed that these figures will not be decisive in determining the success of the test phase.
Whether or not all commission sessions will be shown in the future remains to be decided.
